No extra powers for PCSOs says Bernard Hogan-Howe
The Met Commissioner told onthebeat101 he wouldn’t give PCSOs more powers because PCSOs are for building good relationships with members of the community.
Now some the South Yorkshire Police want to replace police constables with PCSOs.
Mr Hogan Howe says giving them more powers would mean they spend less time on the street, which is where they need to be.
He added that PCSOs should be able to work without the need to do all the work in the office that police officers do.
He argued that otherwise there is a danger that the police won’t have this vital link with the community, schools, officials which are integral to policing.
But what do you think?
What kind of powers would you like PCSOs to have? Why are the powers they have now sufficient? Share your thoughts by commenting below!
