What crimes face PCSOs on London’s Streets?
As a follow up to our article on the potential increased usage of PCSOs as a new initial point of contact for communities OntheBeat101 has done some investigation into the public’s views on what community crimes that they will be faced with. All statistics used in the investigation were taken from the Greater London Authority website. We have used a selection of data from the “top 20” most reported concerns from the London area in 2011.
The analysis graph above makes interesting reading. From it we can see that if the PCSOs (remaned LBOs if the changes take place) are increased in 2012 then their attentions and training will have to be aimed primarily at resolving disputes about police communication and availability.
Therefore there is a clear message from the people that the new initiative, if it goes ahead, will have to concentrate at making police services more readily available to the public. It is important to note at this point that this is the public’s opinion, however the new initiative may have even been a reaction in itself upon seeing statistics like these!
We can also see that there is clearly going to be a very diverse range of problems that will test all of the LBOs skills – the question is, do they have enough authority and support from the Government to make a positive impact on these statistics?
